Nicolai Gedda: Gesangkunst in Vollendung (Perfect Vocal Art) [Live and Studio Performances From 1952-1960)

$149.99

On Membran Documents 233384; 10 CD’s; This 10CD box set is a comprehensive portrait of the most versatile tenor of the second half of the twentieth century. The recordings range from a Swedish radio recording of the Postillon Aria (with the seldom heard top “D”) to the roles of Huon in Weber’s Oberon and the battle-hungry general Radamés in Aida. The compilation clearly reveals Nicolai Gedda’s confident gift for languages – he was born the son of Russian- Swedish parents in 1925. In addition to the two aforementioned languages Gedda also sings effortlessly in German, Italian and – in particular, French. Gedda’s repertoire is so extensive that simply making a list of all the roles he sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York would be sufficient to qualify him for the description “exceptional”. His vocal technique and his confident feeling for style – combined with the euphony of his voice – join forces on these recordings to create a unique listening experience. Excerpts from: DIE LUSTIGE WITWE, LE POSTILLON DE LONJUMEAU, LA MUETTE DE PORTICI, ROMEO ET JULIETTE, LE DEVIN DU VILLAGE, ORPHÉE ET EURIDICE, FAUST, MANON, LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, EINE NACHT IN VENEDIG, WIENER BLUT, RIGOLETTO , MADAMA BUTTERFLY, CARMEN, LES PECHEURS DE PERLES , LA FAVORITA, DIE ZIEGUENERBARON , DIE FLEDERMAUS , DAS LAND DES LACHELNS , MARTHA, OBERON, IL TURCO IN ITALIA, BORIS GODUNOV, LA CLEMENZA DI TITO, and more; also includes a wonderful song recital from Salzburg recording in 1959!
