Cordyceps sinensis (scientific name: Ophiocordyceps sinensis (Berk.) G.H. Sung, J.M.Sung, Hywel-Jones & Spatafora) is a fungus of the Cordyceps family and genus Cordyceps. Subpod annual, clavate, leathery when fresh, light yellow at base, yellowish-brown middle, dark brown above, up to 6 cm long and 2 mm diam, subpod mycelium colorless, thick-walled , frequently separate, occasionally branched; Linear, colorless, thin-walled ascospores, more divided after maturity, with a size of (118-) 120-262 (-270) microns × (4.5-) 5-6 (-6.5) microns. The fungus can form complexes with bat moth larvae.
